Sun’s Rays in Fall

1980. Designed and quilted by Marlene Brown Woodfield.

This second, significant quilt by Marlene was also a gift for her daughter. Deb was preparing to complete her graduate studies. This time, Marlene didn’t ask what she wanted as a gift. She just made another quilt!

Similar to the Valparaiso University Campus Quilt, this magnificent tree was constructed using a variety of different fabrics in similar colors, this time – browns. The design captures the sun’s rays on a lovely fall day. Marlene loved nature and spending time outdoors (when she wasn’t quilting, that is)! Over the years, she made many quilts with trees, flowers, birds, animals, and other nature scenes.
