The Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative (AAQI) was a collaborative effort by quilters across the country to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research. Marlene made nearly 100 quilts between 2007 and 2013. These small quilts were typically 9″ x 12″ (although some were slightly different). All were designed and quilted in Marlene’s unique style. The quilts were often dedicated to a friend or family member that suffered from Alzheimer’s, and Marlene kept meticulous records of each, with descriptions and notations regarding date, funds raised, and purchaser (if known). Sales of her Alzheimer’s Prioity Quilts raised over $10,000 for research!

Marlene shares: “I have several people whom I love that have developed Alzheimer’s and it has both robbed them of life as well as robbed the family members of their personality. I feel that making quilts to raise money for research is a fun way for me to participate in making this disease a thing of the past.”
